Using the Learning Resources Center (LRC)/Library

What do I do if a book or journal for which I am looking is not on the shelf?
 Ask for help from a library staff member.  Sometimes items are misshelved.
 Double check the catalog to be certain the item is actually on this campus and not
 one of the other TTC campuses.

What are the “stacks” and where are they?
 The “stacks” are where the circulating (can be checked out) books are shelved.   

Where do you keep the newspapers and magazines?
 Current and back issues of newspapers, magazines, and journals are kept in the
 Reference Area.

Is the library open on Saturdays?
 The main LRC is open on Saturdays from 9:00 am until 1:30 pm.
Here are all of our hours:
Berkeley campus library - Wednesday and Thursday 7:45 am to 5:00 pm. 
Palmer campus library - Monday through Thursday 7:45 to 6:00 pm and Friday 7:45 am to 4:30 pm. 
Main campus library – Monday through Thursday 7:45 am to 9 pm and Friday 7:45 am to 4:30 pm.

Is there a FAX machine?
 Yes.  Faxes are $1.00 per page to send.  The Main LRC FAX number is
843-574-6946. The Palmer FAX machine is 843-720-6514.  The Berkeley  FAX number is 843-899-8100.

May I check out videos?
No, videos must be viewed in the library.  One exception are the math videos available in the reserves behind the circulation desk. 

Borrowing/Reserves

Can I check out reference books?
 No, reference books may only be used in the library.

How do I check out a book?
You must have a valid TTC id card.

How many books may I check out?
 Normally, you may check out 10 books at a time.

May I get books from another college campus?
 Yes, simply give a library staff member the call number, title, and author of the
book and the campus or college which has the book.  We will then obtain the book through Interlibrary Loan.  Please allow 5 – 7 business days.

Where do I find books and math tapes and videos on reserve?
 Reserve items are kept at the Circulation Desk.

Photocopies/Computers

Can I make photocopies?
 Yes, there are photocopy machines in each library.  Copies are $0.10 per page.

May I print from the library’s computers?
 Yes.  Copies are $0.10 per page and can be picked up at the Circulation Desk.

Can I print in color?
 Yes, there are color printers at the Circulation Desk at Main and Palmer.  Color
copies are $1.00 per page.

Can I make a color transparency?
Yes, transparencies are available for $1.00 at the Circulation Desk at Main and at Palmer and can be made on the color printer.

How do I print out PowerPoint slides?
Within the PowerPoint program, click on Print.  Within the print window, by Print what, choose Handouts from the drop-down menu.  Then to the right select a number of Slides per page.  Color/Grayscale, choose Pure Black and White.  Click on Okay.
 
Can I use the TTC databases from home?
 Yes.  Go to the LRC/library home page and click on  Off-campus access on the
 gray toolbar to the right.  Enter the 13-digit barcode number from your student ID (excluding the A’s) and click on Submit query.  A list of the databases will appear.

How do I access the Library’s home page?
 The URL for the library’s home page is www.tridenttech.edu/library.htm.

Reference Questions

How do I find books on my topic?
 Go to the LRC’s (library) home page and click on Search the Catalog on the
gray toolbar to use the online catalog.  Enter your subject or search terms and click search.

How do I find articles on my topic?
Go to the LRC/library home page.  Click on Research and then click on Online Databases.  You may then choose to see the listing of databases by Subject or Alphabetical list.  Infotrac Expanded Academic ASAP and EBSCO’s Academic Search Premier are two of our most widely used databases.

How do I cite my resources?
 Go to the LRC/library home page.  Click on Research and then click on Citing
 Resources.  Choose MLA Documentation or APA Documentation and scroll down to the appropriate example.

How can I get resources for a specific class held at TTC?
 Some specific resources are available for some classes under the heading of Course Pages.  Go to the LRC home page, click on Research, then click on Course Pages. 

How can I get help using a database from home?
For most of our databases we have a tutorial.  Go to the LRC/library home page.  Click on Research and then click on Tutorials.  For additional assistance you should contact the library.
