BOOKS

Trident Technical College’s Learning Resources Center (LRC) has over 90,000 volumes covering all curriculum study areas. In addition, the LRC is a member of the Charleston Area Library Consortium (CALC).  Through this membership and interlibrary loan, additional materials from area libraries are also available.  Use the library’s Online Catalog to search Trident’s collection and the collections of other area libraries.

ONLINE DATABASES

To access the LRC's online databases, click the online database link on the Research page of the LRC website.  (Note:  A TTC ID is needed to access the databases from off campus).

INFOTRAC includes several databases full of magazine and journal articles, newspaper articles, pamphlets, book reviews, newswires, maps, charts, graphics, etc.  Suggested databases include Expanded Academic ASAP, Custom Newspapers (Post and Courier and New York Times), and General Reference Center.  These are updated daily. For this class, you may find Expanded Academic particularly helpful.

PROQUEST is another database that may have articles of use in the Electrical Engineering field.  Go to the Proquest Database and select Advanced Search.  At Database select Education-Career and Technical Education from the pull-down menu.  You may also want to limit to full-text articles and to scholarly journals.

EBSCO HOST – VOCATIONAL & CAREER COLLECTION will also provide articles for you.  At library’s home page, click on Research, then click on Online Databases, then By Subject.  Under Science & Technology, click on Vocational and Career Collection.

NetLibrary  contains thousands of electronic books (E-books) that are full-text versions of published non-fiction books.  (HINT:  Do a keyword search using the following terms:  Vocational AND guidance AND electrical engineering, vocational guidance, employment forecasting).

SCOIS  (South Carolina Occupational  Information System) provides information about colleges and careers.  For occupations, it gives information about employment opportunities and outlooks, earnings, advancement, education required, wages and earnings, licensure and certification.  For two-year and four-year colleges, it gives requirements for admission, enrollment, majors offered, sports activities available, boarding information, a link to the college website, a college letter writer, and a guide to gaining financial aid, and the option to compare one college with another.  (Found only on the computers in the reference section of the library.)

WEBSITES

The Internet will have thousands of websites on Electrical Engineering and programs in this field at colleges and universities.  Always evaluate the site before using it as a resource.  Remember:  ANYONE can put ANYTHING  on the Internet.  Try using sites with the .edu domain.  In particular, try going to the University of Memphis (http://www.ee.memphis.edu/) and University of North Carolina Charlotte (http://www.ece.uncc.edu/) for information.  Also remember to use the Tutorials link to find our Web Site Evaluation page if you try to find websites on your own.  This can help you determine whether or not a website is an accurate and authoritative resource.  Do not hesitate to ask a librarian to assist you in determining a website’s worthiness.

Helpful Websites:   Occupational Outlook Handbook (http://www.bls.gov/oco/)
