The following databases and resources are suggested in locating information for the two major papers required in AHS 105 on Medical Malpractice, and Informed Consent. To access the databases, click the online databases link from the library’s webpage. (Note: A TTC ID card is needed for off campus access). For help in using the databases see the tutorials or research sections of the library webpage.
Note: Using different keywords or search terms that are similar will often times expand your results lists and therefore provide more information. For example, in addition to Medical Malpractice, use terms like: Medical negligence, human error and medicine, physician negligence, wrongful death suit, "cerebral palsy and malpractice" (using the actual name of the resulting condition or birth defect). When researching Informed consent other keywords could be: parental consent, parental notification, parental involvement in abortions. Do not just type in abortions. This results in thousands of sites with the word abortions in it. Narrow your search to what you are looking for.

INTERNET SITES
When using the Internet for AHS 105 or any health related information be cautious. NOTE : There are numerous websites on the topics of Medical Malpractice and Informed Consent. Mixed in with some very good sites will be attorneys sites (.com) advertising services, Pro-Choice and Pro-Life individuals or groups giving their opinion on the general topic of abortion, personal testimonial sites, etc. Remember, ANYONE can create an internet site. Always do some form of website evaluation before you decide it is a website to use and the information is reliable. For help on evaluating websites click here. Also pay attention to the websites domain. Using domains of .edu, .gov, or .org is usually better than using a .com.
To find information on state laws and informed consent try the following http://www.plannedparenthood.org/ - Provides a table and key to the 50 states with various degrees of informed consent laws. Official state websites are usually found by using http://www.globalcomputing.com/states.html- Example - http://www.sc.gov/ - will direct you to the official website of South Carolina. http://www.state.ga.us/ will direct you to the official website of Georgia. Once in the state's website look for links like, laws, state laws, legislation, government, state codes, etc. These links will usually lead to a search of the state's laws. Search with keywords.
