PubMed and Internet Grateful Med
For consumer health information, consider using MEDLINEplus. Health consumers are encouraged to discuss search results with their health care professional.
NLM offers PubMed and Internet Grateful Med, two free systems to search MEDLINE. They both:

  • Provide an easy way to search the 11 million references and abstracts in the MEDLINE database;
  • Use PubMed's retrieval engine to link to over 700 journals for full text of articles (some publishers may require a subscription) and provide pre-computed sets of relevant MEDLINE articles;
  • Offer NLM's Medical Subject Headings for searching; and
  • Use Loansome Doc for document delivery services (there may be local charges).
PubMed Internet Grateful Med
  • Also has links to molecular biology databases of DNA/protein sequences and 3-D structure data.
  • Also provides access to other NLM databases on AIDS, bioethics, history of medicine, toxicology, health services research, and other topics.
  • Medical Sources - Everything from Bioethical issuees to occupational therapy to medical images to a tutorial on researching medical literature.

    Let's say you wanted to stay up to date on a particular topic weekly but don't want to spend time conducting the same search. Here's how it works: -- Just type your search request into the Medscape search engine and click "Go." When you get to the Search Results page, add this page to your Bookmarks or Favorites. -- Next time you want to search for the same topic, all you need to do is click on the Bookmark. Medscape will run an UPDATED search FOR YOU that includes new articles relevant to your search term. Try this feature with Medscape's full-text database search form at: http://www.medscape.com/Home/Search/formFulltext.html This bookmark feature will work for every Medscape database, even MEDLINE! The links above are to sites not affiliated with TTC.
