Topics and Speakers
The Power of Commitment, Dr. Mary Thornley
The Power of Commitment to Your Job, Your Career, Yourself – Mary Thornley’s Version
Being a proactive leader is the key to many successes. We are all influenced by the things we read and hear, the things we see, and the people we meet. Dr. Thornley will share her lessons learned and applied from these influential people: Stephen Covey, Victor Frankel, Harriet Tubman and Stoney Thornley.
Dr. Mary Thornley has been president of Trident Technical College since 1991. In nominating Dr. Thornley for the Association of Community College Trustees Southern Regional Chief Executive Officer Award, TTC Area Commissioner Chairman Jack Harrison said, "Dr. Thornley is a dynamic and charismatic leader with an exceptional talent for both anticipating community work force needs and harnessing the resources necessary to meet those needs. She is at heart an educator, but through hard work and experience she has also grown to be a powerful leader – one who combines the attributes of a seasoned businesswoman, a masterful politician and a caring colleague. She truly believes in the transformational power of education and is passionate about TTC’s role in making our community, our state and our nation stronger, more adaptable, and better able to face the challenges of the future."
The Power of Diversity, Steve Price
Building a team is a critical step to ensure success of your organizational goals. A must for any successful team is harnessing the Power of Diversity…. maybe not in the traditional sense but rather by the perspective, values and experience each member brings. This session takes an entertaining look at human nature and enlightens us about our differences and just how valuable they really are.
Steve Price is an educational program and marketing consultant in TTC’s Division of Continuing Education and Economic Development. He also conducts workshops on communication, customer service, ethics and leadership courses. He came to TTC in 2001 after retiring from a 30-year career with a Fortune 500 company.
The Power of Green, Dr. Russ Darnall
What does it mean to be green? How do I act green at home, at work and in my community? This panel of community experts, led by TTC Green Director Dr. Russ Darnall, identifies small changes we can make that will have a large impact on our environment.
Dr. Russ Darnall is director of Manufacturing, Industrial and Construction Trades in Trident Technical College’s Division of Continuing Education and Economic Development and director of TTC Green, an umbrella that focuses on the college’s sustainability objectives. Before joining TTC, he was the vice president for economic development at the South Carolina State Technical College System.
The Power of Networking, Randy Grimes
The Speed Networking session from last year’s conference was such a success, we have brought it back this year – but with a twist. You receive a Power of Networking card in your materials that will be completed with another participant’s name and company. The first five participants to get Networking Bingo will receive a special door prize.
Randy Grimes is an instructor in the Radio, Television and Film department at Trident Technical College. A native of Charleston, he received a bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina and a master’s degree from George Washington University.
The Power of Appearance Fashion show by Dillard’s
First impressions do matter when it comes to communicating your professionalism through appearance. Your personal appearance has important implications for your professional and social life. Enjoy the latest fashion trends and accessories from the Dillard’s collection.
The Power of Service, Debbie Antonelli
Motivating factors and leadership styles may differ yet one trait that rallies, unifies and bridges any team is a leader's ability to sacrifice within the framework of a vision. Leaders don't just come in suits and ties or skirts and heels with mission statements and an oversized ambition. Leadership qualities are inside each of us if we are willing to understand why it is important to help others achieve what they want.
Debbie Antonelli is one of the top women’s basketball analysts in the country and serves as the lead analyst in the ACC, Big 12, SEC and the Big East. Antonelli has worked for ESPN, CBS, Fox Sports Net, CBS College Sports, Westwood One and several other networks. She received the 2007 Mel Greenberg Media Award for her work in women’s basketball.
