Learning Assistance at Palmer Campus

The Student Success Center (Room 226) on Palmer Campus offers learning assistance in writing, strategic reading, science, and mathematics to currently enrolled TTC students.

Each semester, tutors and instructors are available for individual appointments and drop-in assistance.

The SSC also has a variety of instructor handouts, textbook companions, and video/DVD course lectures.

For students preparing to take the PRAXIS I Exam, the SSC provides access to Plato software. Students may take a practice test and complete exercises to improve math, reading, and writing skills before taking the PRAXIS I Exam.

The Writing Process

Did you realize that there's more to writing a paper than typing it on the computer?

Effective college writing is a process that includes planning, organizing, proofreading, and using MLA or APA format.

Writing can't be done effectively the night before the due date!

In addition to personalized writing assistance, the SSC houses videos and reference books for use in the center.

A series of informational handouts is available for printing from the Resources link at left.

The Reading Process: Comprehending College Textbooks

College courses require textbooks. College instructors make regular reading assignments.

Class lectures and textbook readings work together to help students achieve success on graded assignments.

If you are struggling with a course, you might benefit from reading assistance.

Once you acquire the skills that effective college readers use during the reading process,

you will be able to apply them to nearly every course textbook.

Grab your current textbook and a sharp pencil. Find out how to get the most out of your textbook,

and in the meantime, go to the Resources link at left for some quick tips on college reading.

Math and Science

Fear of the unknown is often the only thing standing between a student and a good math or science grade.

The good news is that you don’t have to fight this fear alone.

When your biology, chemistry, or physics assignments seem like a foreign language, tutors are

available for translation. Tutors help break the information into manageable parts

and show you how to put the parts back together.

Our math tutors work side-by-side with you as you complete math homework assignments.

The way to master math is to learn by doing… and doing… and doing!

Good math habits create good math grades.
