PURPOSE: Trident Technical College conducts programs of orientation for new employees in order to promote learning and enhance opportunities for job success.

  1. ORIENTATION—ALL EMPLOYEES

The Human Resources Department conducts an orientation for all new employees within several weeks of hire to provide information on insurance programs, State retirement programs, OSHA requirements and other benefits available to employees.
  2. ORIENTATION — FACULTY

The office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs conducts an orientation and effective pedagogy course for all new full-time faculty to provide training and information required to perform job duties and responsibilities. This course is approximately 14 weeks in length and meets several hours each week. A new full-time faculty member receives a one-course release from his/her academic teaching load in exchange for participation.

The office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs also conducts annual orientations for part-time faculty before the Fall and Spring semesters.
  3. ORIENTATION — CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES

Supervisors of classified employees are responsible for overseeing an effective program of orientation for all new classified employees. The Human Resources Department provides new classified employees with a New Classified Employee Orientation Check Sheet during the benefits orientation. The check sheet serves to facilitate discussions between the new employee and the supervisor whereby a tailored orientation program is designed specific to the new employee's job responsibilities. Supervisors must attach the completed check sheet to the employee's six-month interim evaluation.
