PURPOSE: This procedure guides the selection, acquisition and maintenance of electronic resources. Trident Technical College provides these electronic resources to support instructional program and research needs.
- DEFINITION:
The college defines electronic resources as computer-searchable collections of information.
- RESPONSIBILITY:
The selection of electronic resources is the responsibility of the Librarians working in coordination with faculty and staff.
- SELECTION:
The primary criteria for the selection of electronic products are the extent to which they are relevant to the curriculum, improve the overall library collection, and/or enhance the user’s access to information. Additionally, the LRC considers:
- compatibility of the resource with existing hardware and technical support
- licensing restrictions and costs
- ease of use
- data ownership
- LICENSING AND COPYRIGHT:
The LRC complies with the Copyright Act of 1976 and subsequent revisions and vendor licensing agreements which follow the Association for Research Libraries Principles for Licensing Electronic Resources.
- EVALUATION:
The LRC evaluates its databases annually, paying particular attention to changes in the databases and the needs of the TTC community.
