Student Spotlight     Our featured student is a graduate of the Associate Degree in Radio and Television Broadcasting and a Project ASSIST participant. We proudly spotlight LaTonya Frasier, our featured student! The following is an interview Project ASSIST had with LaTonya before she graduated:

What factors contributed to your decision to pursue Radio and Television Broadcasting?

I love everything that has to do with TV and movies.  I have always liked being in the spotlight, having attention on me, making people laugh, and entertaining others.  To do that, I wanted to learn every aspect of the business.  With the Radio and Television Broadcasting program, I have learned how to work behind the scenes- such as using the camera, setting up lights, and setting up microphones.  Editing was one of my favorite things to learn.

What is exciting about your career choice and what do you find challenging about your program of study?

This career is exciting because you can have fun while you’re doing it.  It is not a boring job.  I would not enjoy sitting at a computer all day or at a desk.  You can also make good money in this career field.  The challenging piece of this program is that it is time consuming.  For example, it takes at least five hours to make a 30 second commercial.  I have had to learn to manage time well as I have progressed through the program.

What has your experience at TTC been like?

It’s been a blast!  I have had the opportunity to watch the news live and help with the commercials for TTC.  My voice was on the radio commercial for TTC.  I have learned so much here to be able to go into the world and be successful.  I am not scared at all because TTC properly prepared me.  I have also met a lot of people and have had great networking opportunities here.

What has been your experience with Project ASSIST (PA)?

I appreciate the fact that PA has helped out so much.  I have a three year old child, and I have not had to worry about working so hard because of the help PA has given.  I tell others that there is no excuse for a single parent to not attend TTC, because PA fills in the blanks by helping with childcare, travel, and books.

What are your plans for the future?

I plan to work for the North Charleston Police Department for a while and also do some work for Army Wives.  In the Summer 2008, I plan to move to Los Angeles.  While pursuing my acting and modeling career, I would like to work in production.  My preference is to work on sitcoms because they are more scheduled than movies.
